Roofing Vs. Solar

First and foremost Resilient Roofing is a roofing company and we’ve been a roofing company for years. We do solar, but we are a roofing company. We believe in solar and it’s benefits. I have solar and many of my team members do also. Furthermore, California is a perfect place for solar. We have a sunny climate, great weather, high electricity bills. It’s the perfect situation to get solar installed on your house. Many solar first companies market themselves as roofers also and we want to explain the difference here.

SOLAR COMPANIES IN SAN DIEGO

You see a lot of solar companies in San Diego marketing the benefits of solar. Some companies are good and some are not so good. We won’t get into that. Now obviously, where do most solar panels go? They go up on a roof. Some you see ground mounted in someone's backyard or on a hill, but the majority of solar goes up on people's roofs. Because of this, many solar companies have to battle with roof conditions. Some roofs are old, some are new, some need to be repaired or replaced. Many solar companies are now turning into roofing companies or have a separate branch or contract out roofing jobs to make sure they’re able install solar on a good roof. For them, the roof just kind of gets in the way.

BETTER TO HIRE ROOFERS OR A SOLAR COMPANY?

We frequently get asked about solar from people in need a new roof. We’re a roofing company, so what’s easier or more important, being a roof expert that can do solar or a solar installer getting into roofing? We believe, you should focus on your foundation before adding on solar. We do solar, and the way solar panels are mounted today, it’s a fairly easy installation. Once your roof is done and warrantied, adding on solar is a much simpler process.

DOES RESILIENT ROOFING DO SOLAR?

The answer is yes, we can absolutely handle your solar needs. We are licensed, insured and everything needed for a solar installation. We want to reiterate, that roofing is our number one priority and our focus is making sure your new roof is completely waterproof. From there, we can talk about solar options. We can handle solar needs very cost effectivley since our team is already out there mobilized to finish installing solar.

SOLAR OR NEW ROOF FIRST?

I think we’ve made this point very clear by now, but it’s much better to install a new roof prior to installing solar. If you have 5 or less years on your roof left, don’t let a solar company talk you into installing solar. Once the panels are on it’s a pain to remove them. We’ve done many roofs with panels already installed and it’s not to simply remove the panels. You have to remove all the mounting brackets and that takes time. From there, we redo the roof and then have to remount everything back to like it was. Make sure to do your roof first and then we can talk solar, whether it’s with us or anybody else.

BENEFITS OF ROOFING/SOLAR UNDER ONE COMPANY

A major benefit of having roofing and solar with one company is financing. We’ll help you get financed for both projects at the same time. This can also lead to tax benefits, so make sure to check with your accountant before tackling this type of project.
